Teacher Academy
Shelly Amacker, Teacher Academy Instructor
Teacher Academy students have engaged in first hand learning experiences by participating in
clinical field experiences at Perkinston Elementary, Stone Elementary, and Stone Middle School.
At the beginning of the year students toured both Perkinston Elementary and Stone Elementary.
Students were able to observe in different grade levels and subject area classrooms. Each student
then selected a grade to participate for his/her clinical experience. During the yearlong clinical
experience, students will work under the guidance of a classroom teacher observing and
recording the classroom teacher’s actions, the student’s progress, and classroom procedures.
Students also prepare lesson materials and bulletin boards, instruct learning centers, assist
students with technology, and tutor individually or in small groups, as directed by the teacher.
Teacher Academy I require 25 clinical experience hours while Teacher Academy II requires 50
clinical experience hours.
